Sustainability
Sustainability is high on our agenda. Our mission is to bring the global fruit chain together in an efficient and sustainable way. We want people around the world to be able to enjoy fruit. Now and in the future.
To us, it is important to not just talk about sustainability, but to take action. We have our own residual flow processing hub HALF-BAKED and are a signatory to the SIFAV covenant. To make an impact, we have selected five sustainability themes. These themes give direction to our actions and initiatives for a more sustainable future all.
1. Social
Being a good employer is important to us. We strive for fairness both to our direct colleagues and to those in the chain: health and vitality, fair wages, diversity and inclusion (e.g. SROI).
2. Circularity
We strive for a circular organization and chain: this means that we use as few (primary) raw materials as possible, reduce waste and reuse residual flows in a high-quality way. Specifically, we do this by seamlessly matching supply and demand and adding value to residual streams with our own HALF-BAKED residual flow processing hub.
3. Climate
The journey of our fruit, from the moment it is planted to the moment it is consumed, has an impact on our environment. We try to minimize this impact as much as possible. We are focused on reducing our carbon footprint, generating renewable energy, and making transportation more sustainable.
4. Nature
Through innovations in sustainable agriculture, we ensure the optimal growth of our crops, allowing us to thrive in changing conditions, while preventing soil degradation and contributing to improved biodiversity (for example, by eliminating the use of pesticides). In this way, we strive to maintain a healthy and sustainable living environment.
5. Chain Responsibility
Being part of a collective is key. Achieving sustainability goals requires chain responsibility. We are committed to promoting sustainability throughout the supply chain by fostering collaboration among stakeholders, serving as chain directors, and empowering each other.
CSRD
A major theme within sustainability is CSRD. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is a new EU regulation that requires comprehensive sustainability reporting from large companies in the areas of Environment, Society and Good Governance (ESG). This will have a tremendous impact on our business in the coming years, as well as that of our partners and customers. Would you like to know more about CSRD? Have a look at the video below. In the video, our ESG controller Asia shares all the ins and outs.
